When will be the first NEXT exam?

The first NEXT exam is scheduled to be held in August 2028 for MBBS students of the 2023-24 batch.

The NEXT exam is a new national medical licensure exam that will replace the existing NEET PG and FMGE exams. It will be a single exam for both MBBS graduates and foreign medical graduates who want to practice medicine in India.

The NEXT exam will be held in two steps:

Step 1: A theoretical exam with 540 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)

Step 2: A practical exam

Candidates will have to qualify in both Step 1 and Step 2 in order to be eligible to practice medicine in India.

The NEXT exam is expected to be more comprehensive and rigorous than the existing NEET PG and FMGE exams. It is also expected to be more standardized, with the same exam being held for all candidates across India.

The NEXT exam is still under development, and the National Medical Commission (NMC) is expected to release more details about the exam in the coming months.
