Bukhara State Medical Institute was established in October 1990. In March 1991, the Presidium of the Bukhara Regional Council of People’s Deputies officially named it “Abu Ali ibn Sino.” According to Top Universities (QS), The Faculty of Medicine was created in 1991, followed by the Faculty of Dentistry in 1992, the Department of Highly Qualified Nurses in 1999, the Department of Medical Pedagogy in 2001, and the Department of Pediatrics in 2016. By 2018, two new areas were introduced focusing on medical prevention and medical biology. Currently, the institute comprises 4 faculties and 53 departments, offering bachelor’s degrees in 9 fields, master’s degrees in 30 specialties, and clinical residency in over 36 specialties, along with 20 joint double degree programs across all three levels of education. More than 9,180 students and residents are enrolled in these programs. The faculty includes 648 professors and educators, among whom are 97 doctors of sciences and professors, 253 candidates of sciences (PhD) and associate professors, as well as 100 senior teachers and assistants. Classes are conducted in Uzbek, Russian, English, and Turkish. The institute is committed to training highly qualified professionals in accordance with the updated Law “On Education” across 9 areas and 1 international program.
